Welcome to the Community Building Issue! As many in our network can attest, Nonviolent Communication (NVC) can be a powerful tool for creating strong connections that can strengthen and sustain communities over time. Continuing to move forward with our visionmission to create a world in which people meet their needs peacefully and our to build life-enriching systems, the Center for Nonviolent Communication (CNVC) is building a structure that can address local needs for autonomy with the mutuality and interdependence that are vital for sustaining a global community. In this issue, we will explore this vision of building a worldwide NVC community. First, we will look at the Global Coordinating Council, established over the last year to support the growth and interconnection of NVC communities around the world. Next, we will turn attention to Eastern Europe, where Éva Rambala has been working on spreading NVC throughout the region for the last seven years. Her experience with finding and establishing lasting contacts, organizing events in foreign countries, and working with people to begin teaching NVC themselves shows the value of openness and persistence as we each begin and sustain projects over time. Finally, we will see how the French-speaking Circle has structured an organization that incorporates local ideas and needs while maintaining efficient decision-making strategies. -Jiva Manske, Editor |
